It should be noted that by 1936-37 the Drawing Office will be in

use every period, i.e., for a total of 32 hours per week, while it is contemplated that the laboratory will be used for Science purposes for 16 hours, leaving 16 hours for general use. The re

will always be a fair amount of preparation and maintenance work in the Drawing Office, Laboratories and Carpenters Shop, of a kind

which can only be done by the teaching staff, and it is contemplate d that the periods during which the classes attend in the Carpenters

Shop will release the teachers concerned with these subjects, to

assist the Principal: though it must be remembered that the Carpentry Instructor will require an interpreter up to Year III or IV.

Proposed system of training staff.

During the present Session, in view of both the Chinese staff

being Arts graduates, most difficulty has been experienced with the

technical drawing, although the latter has been confined so far to plane geometry. The method adopted has been for the Principal to

write out each lesson in advance, and to prepare drawing sheets as

samples for class use. The teacher can then prepare translations of un-usual words and gives the verbal instruction. The effect of his

work is then clearly visible to the Principal who visite each day

twice each drawing period. The method seems to be meeting with

such success as to warrant its continuance pro tem.
